May 2017 - Alveare: Ruddocks of Lincoln, Lincoln.

Alveare [Latin]: 'Beehive'

Group exhibition themed around the concept of 'home'. Organised and curated independently by myself and five other second year fine art students.

Fine artist based in Lincolnshire / Oxfordshire.

My artwork is rooted in an interest in materiality and process art. I enjoy working with materials I am able to manipulate, mould, touch, impose, destroy and alter to create sculptural work. My work focuses on the ephemeral, and as a result of this the materials used are transient in nature. This sparked an interest in the Japanese aesthetic concept of Wabi-Sabi, well described by Leonard Koren in 'Wabi-Sabi for artists, designers, poets and philosophers' (2008).

My current work focuses on the preservation of these time-honoured materials and sculptures, and how this manipulation and interference of the materials may compromise the ontology of the ephemeral work itself. This concept has been influenced by Peggy Phelan's writing in 'Unmarked' (1992), which discusses how the ontology of performance is affected when it is documented or recorded. I see my ephemeral artworks as a live-performance, and therefore my current work aims to juxtapose this notion and experiment in ways I can create ephemeral art, that remains static.
